My Latest Obsession

The past few months Ive been very much into henna. I have had it done a few times throughout the years but this time around I wanted to learn how to do it myself. One website which really gives you the basics is hennapage.com. They have a lot of resources and breaking down all that pertains to henna, applying it, how to mix it, aftercare, designs, etc.
Right now it is just a hobby that I enjoy. It really helps me to be creative and definitely relaxing as I can have some me time away from everyone else. I want to inshaAllah one day to take classes. One sister has online classes she teaches which aren't expensive at all and I love her work. MashaAllah she just opened her new store in Portland Oregan. Check her out at freehandmehndhi.com. She also has a youtube channel as well.
Another artist I really admire is Jamilah Zebarth of Jamailah Henna Creations. From my knowledge she has been doing henna for a long time and has her own design book. Her style is more floral designs, which are beautiful and girly. She is also a niqabi :)

Wa alaikum assalaam Hind, I wouldn't normally wear it on my finger nails because it last longer on your nails than any place else and after awhile you just have orange nails which look strange after awhile. I guess that is just me. A good alternative to nail polish though.

I suggest buying this http://www.amazon.com/Art-Henna-Body-Kit/dp/0760794901 from Amazon and then getting Ranicone henna from alhannah.com. The henna kit comes with kind of temporary tattoos that you trace over with the henna so it's great for beginners. The henna included is a bit annoying to mix though, so I suggest getting some pre-mixed henna tubes.

From my understanding of what the scholars say henna is a type of adornment that is permissible but shouldn't be shown to non-mahrams and she should cover her hands. It doesn't necessarily have be covered with gloves but either with her garment say a long sleeve shirt that comes over her hands. This is what most scholars say according to the ayah “and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent”. But then the disagree upon the term that which is apparent of. Some say the kohl you wear on your eyes and a nd a ring. And of these are hidden and visible adornments, visible being clothing and everything else is to be hidden. And Allah knows best as to what is correct. I don't really wear gloves outside especially if its hot outside as long as you aren't flashing it in mens faces it should be ok

Salaams American Niqabi, I wouldn't reccomend using Rani kone. It is said to have chemicals in it and from what I read according to the directions that you can achieve a dark stain in just an hour, is impossible with henna unless it has chemicals. Henna takes hours, at least 6 hours, to achieve a nice dark stain. But you can buy premixed cones from sisters who make it fresh and with natural ingredients.

Asalamu Alaikum

I just stumbled upon your blog, and was very happy to see my work!

I also see above someone suggesting you use rani cone... absolutely DO NOT use it. Its full of harmful chemicals. If you want to do henna, mix your own or buy fresh cones from someone you trust. Never use premixed stuff in a tube.

I am actually working with/for Heather from Henna By Heather right now as a web person for her supply store. www.artisticadornment.com I've got 2 more solo books there and 3 joint efforts with Heather. :)

Again, I'm so happy you like my work, and may Allah reward you.
